For a long time I didn’t understand why you would want to use social bookmarking sites.

I already had a favorites (IE) and Bookmarks (firefox) so why would I need to bookmark a site on these social bookmarking sites. Then I read The Nurse’s Social Media Advantage book, I finally had it explained to me.

Here’s what I have learned :

1. You can bookmark you site and be able to get back to that site from any computer or browser you happen to be using. This is so handy for someone like me that uses a PC and a laptop when I am traveling.

2. It’s also a great place to do research on what’s popular ot trending in your niche market. Great for finding articles about your topic.

3. You can bookmark your favoirte sites with a description or tag. Great way to organize you sites and easily find them when you want to come back. That was the biggest problem I was having when using my browsers bookmarking or favorites, I didn’t know what the site was called and I would waste time trying to find it, sometimes never finding it.

4. Easily send your favorite pages or websites to your friends, family or collegeaues.

5. Score those sites you love with a rating. Give it a score and see how others are scoring your favorite sites.

Now that I understand what social bookmarking sites are and how to use them I’m a big fan.

It’s an easier way to save and get back to that favorite site through using descriptions and tags. This saves time and I’m all about saving time.

Try out a social bookmarking site if you haven’t yet and see if it doen’t save you time and possible money, especailly online business owners who need to use their time more productively.

Here’s a short list of a few but I use Delicious because it’s the most popular and the easiest to use. But don’t take my word for it, try them out and find the one that suits you not all social bookmarking sites are the same.

Dingo.com

Remember, if you don’t want to use Social Bookmarking sites you can still use them to search a topic or check on your competitors if you are a business, or see what your friends like and share your favorites with them.

I didn’t really think much about browsers in my early days online. I actually thought IE (Internet Explorer) was the only one and that all browsers where the same.

I was so wrong.

I started using Firefox last year when this blog got hacked into. The only way I could get back into my site was through Firefox.

Firefox has cool plugins that make getting around or blogging or even for email management, so much easier. It’s also been known as the best in security since it updates on a regular basis (IE does not.)

Once I started using Firefox I didn’t want to go back to IE but I stilled used it for “surfing the web” but than I started having problems viewing video. I knew it wasn’t my computer (I just bought it) so I tried an experiment and switched to Firefox to see if I could view the video and amazingly I had no problems….mmmm, that’s when I stopped using IE altogether.

Now I’m on to using a new browser called Chrome from Google (I’m sure you have heard of it) They claim to be the fastest browser and guess what they are!

I love using Chrome for all the researching I do for healthcare and online business news, it makes getting around so much easier.

I still use Firefox though for my website maintenance, it’s the best when it comes to security but if you want speed than Chrome is the one for you and if you just don’t care than use IE.

Just thought I would share my thoughts on web browsers, so which one do you use?

Managing your Inbox

Opening mailManaging your inbox is a problem for many people. Mine started when I first came online in 2006 selling physical products on eBay. I started subscribing to everyone who had information about working online, particularly selling products on eBay.

I did not have a system in place to deal with emails and it wasn’t long before my in-box had 300 emails waiting to be opened.

Actually, I remember once having over 1,000 unopened emails, How did that happen?

With email being one of the most common ways to communicate it’s important to have a system in place especially if you want to get involved with social media.
